An invitation to instructors, workshops and skilled practitioners

Share how mastery is built.

Teach in person. Give unusually curious participants the opportunity to learn from your passion and mastery to take their own skills to the next level.

Our first focus is the San Francisco Bay Area. One class, technique, or project is enough to start.

For the unusually curious

Teach the decisions behind the work to people who want to understand why.

Testing an idea. Noticing material behaviour. Understanding why an adjustment changes the result. Scientific thinking belongs alongside the art of making.

Curious beginners are welcome where the scope and supervision fit. Each program needs clear prerequisites and meaningful participation.

Why shape this with us

Give your expertise
the space it needs.

Make the learning clear: what people will practise, how you’ll guide them and the judgment they’ll start to develop.

01 Show the substance
Make techniques, practice and prerequisites clear to people with a real interest in your subject.
02 Shape it around your work
Start with an existing class or a particular skill, respecting your time, process and teaching boundaries.
03 Help shape the platform
Tell us what discovery, enquiries and participant communication need to get right for your work.

Four ways to teach

Choose a depth for your craft.

Start with a class you already run or one technique you’d like to teach. Choose a format based on what you can demonstrate, how much practice people need, and how much feedback you can give.

Sessions
2–8 hours

Demonstrate one technique, then give each participant time to try it, get feedback, and make an adjustment.

Intensives
2–5 days

Set a goal for each day. Teach a sequence of techniques, give participants time to compare results, and help them troubleshoot the next attempt.

Mentored Immersions
6–14 days

Guide participants through several stages of a process. Assign work they can do independently and schedule check-ins before they move on.

Mentor a longer project

15–30 days

Residencies

Help someone build judgment over time.

Agree on a project and milestones with the participant. Set aside time to review their work and help them decide what to test, document, and revise between meetings.

Specify your mentoring hours, which work you’ll supervise, when the workspace is available, and what materials you’ll provide. Clarify whether accommodation is included.

If you already teach

Start with a class you already run.

Start with your curriculum, practice and feedback. You’ll help shape the content, group size, dates, materials, and time commitment. We’ll work with you to choose dates around your existing commitments.

If teaching would be new

Start with what
you love explaining.

Bring one process you enjoy explaining. We can explore a manageable learning goal and what guiding someone would involve. No lesson plan is needed to begin.

Explore a first experience

A proposed way to begin

A conversation first.
A considered program next.

A short description is enough to begin. An enquiry is a conversation, not approval or a commitment to teach.

  1. 01

    Talk

Tell us what you teach, what learners could practice, and what time and supervision you can offer.

  2. 02

    Shape

Explore the learning, format, learner fit and practical boundaries.

  3. 03

    Agree details

Agree on preparation, costs, availability and responsibilities.

  4. 04

    Review

Review the description and readiness before any listing.

Before you begin

A few practical
questions.

What stage is Lab & Craft at?

We’re developing the selection and beginning provider conversations, with an initial focus on the San Francisco Bay Area. Programs and dates are not yet available to book.

Do I need to be an experienced teacher?

Existing class providers and practitioners new to teaching are welcome to enquire. Expertise alone doesn’t settle the teaching plan; learner fit, preparation and supervision would be discussed together.

How will bookings and scheduling work?

You can keep using your current booking tools for classes you run independently. When bookings open, participants will book Lab & Craft experiences through Lab & Craft. We’ll use the Lab & Craft calendar to manage availability and scheduling for those bookings.

What would I control?

The proposed approach is to agree scope, timing, group size, materials, supervision, workspace access and private boundaries with you. Participation terms and responsibilities need agreement before joining.

How would the founding offer work?

The proposal covers Lab & Craft commission within an agreed early pilot. Eligibility, included programs, duration, other costs and what happens afterward need agreement before joining.

Does a residency include accommodation?

Accommodation is not assumed. Any accommodation, workspace access, mentor time and materials would have to be specified and agreed for the particular program.

What happens after I send an enquiry?

Your enquiry goes to the Lab & Craft team’s inbox and may be included in an internal daily summary. The team may contact you to discuss participation. Sending it creates no public profile, listing or booking.

What could someone
learn from you?

Tell us about one class, process or skill. You’re starting a conversation about possible participation, with no commitment to join.
